Happy new week, fellow storytellers. I wanted to start the week by reminding Simon Sinek’s famous concept of “The Golden Circle of Storytelling”. Even it’s mostly used in marketing, its application and key message can be extended to every aspect of our lives, from politics to job applications: “When telling your story to others, start with your whys, not whats”.

Most people communicate by starting with the “what” they do and eventually work their way back to talk about “how” and “why” they do what they do. Instead, start with “why”, inspire people with your beliefs and tell them why do you do what you do. What kind of change you want to bring to the world, and why do you want it? Then go backwards with how do you do it, and what do you do? Because people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it. That’s the crucial difference between Apple, Obama, Martin Luther King Jr and their competitors and peers.

We go through life full of questions, “why” can be the hardest but the most crucial to answer. For more, click to watch the whole presentation of Simon Sinek.
