Turkey has experienced one of its historic firsts recently: The President’s Office announced Turkey’s withdrawal from a human rights treaty, widely known as the “Istanbul Treaty” by the President. As the first binding Council of Europe treaty to prevent domestic violence, the convention named after Turkey’s biggest city, due to the country’s leading role in its creation. Turkey was the first CoE member state to ratify the treaty in 2012, and now it is the first to leave.

As I’ve been witnessing closely the dramatic transformation of Turkish politics and the preposterous rhetoric used by Turkish politicians for years, this…

Happy new week, fellow storytellers. I wanted to start the week by reminding Simon Sinek’s famous concept of “The Golden Circle of Storytelling”. Even it’s mostly used in marketing, its application and key message can be extended to every aspect of our lives, from politics to job applications: “When telling your story to others, start with your whys, not whats”.

Most people communicate by starting with the “what” they do and eventually work their way back to talk about “how” and “why” they do what they do. Instead, start with “why”, inspire people with your beliefs and tell them why…

Life is all about decisions; I am a huge believer of this. What we decide to think, say, act and believe shapes our life path. 2020 has been a year that forced us to re-think our decisions, and most of the times hasn’t given many options to chose among. …

What will be the key trends shaping social media in 2020? Fortune-telling in an area which changes nearly every day like social media is not an easy job, to be honest. But these predictions can be useful to create a strategy to build on later with the launch of new platforms/products and social changes. • Engaging in private: Engagement is not exclusive for public social media channels anymore. While many platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn have launched new private messaging and closed group features; “55 % of marketers agree that…

In today’s world, do you even exist if you are not on any social media platform? This question can be understandable for a business, which aims to make a profit by selling its services or products. Still, the same question applies to any organisation regardless of their service, including non-profits. Yes, even if you work for a greater good of the public, fighting against climate change, helping people in need or ending world hunger, you do still need to exist on social media to raise awareness and to reach potential donors and volunteers. With a highly strategic approach on social…

Living in the ‘post-truth era’, has added quite some new words to our vocabulary about truth, falsehood and anything in between: half-truth, post-truth, alternative fact, fake news, accidental slip, deliberate lie, fact resistance and ‘faktaresistens’ –which will be explained later-. Whilst the line between the truth and falsehood becomes more and more blurred, everyone gets their own version of what is true and what is not. It’s quite surprising to see how people can have their version of the truth on anything from politics to U.S. moon landing mission, from 9/11 to global warming. While the truth needs to fight…

What makes an online content viral? This is an eternal question for all the content marketers and creators. While online trends changing with dizzying speed, and there’s an unprecedented boom of new platforms and new features, choosing the right publishing channel gets harder as much as creating the right content for the key audiences. I don’t want to be another ‘Captain Obvious’ here; since there are thousands of articles about content marketing and viral content, stating very basic tips. …

Nobody can deny that influencer marketing is still booming. Word of mouth has been one of the best ways of driving sales and connection towards a brand. Influencer marketing is an extension of this practice with the rise of social media. Influencers have been chosen over conventional ad buys and celebrities because they are seen more ‘authentic’ and ‘trustworthy.’ However, this perception has started to change because of the follower frauds, lack of connection and proximity in some mega influencers’ content. …
